If you are touring the western suburbs of Boston you should plan on stopping at the Minuteman Airport (K6B6 in pilot lingo) in Stow Massachusetts. Certainly off of the beaten path, it is the home to Nancy's Airfield Cafe. While restaurants at airports are not uncommon, Nancy's is truly a cut above with great food, nice atmosphere, and a wonderful view of the airport and airplanes.
This lovely cafe offers breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast on the weekend and evening dinners are popular so it is best to call ahead. Visitors to the restaurant will be treated to a sample of Nancy's soup of the day. The last time I visited, the soup was a spicy and flavorful bean soup with turkey sausage. Nancy is very creative and I cannot remember ever sampling the same soup twice. For lunch my favorite is the hamburger with kettle cooked chips. Not sure why but there is always something satisfying about a well cooked burger. Nancy offers many other lunch treats including, various sandwiches and paninis, soup and salad and do not forget the desserts! Nancy usually features locally grown products in her menu. The dining areas offer a great view of the airport. On a nice day you usually can watch airplanes takeoff and land and taxi into the ramp for fuel. The pilots and passengers of the transiting airplanes have even been known to frequent the restaurant. For many fliers, the airport restaurant is a destination for weekend trips.
Nancy is a lovely lady and creative chef. I have know her and her husband for many years. I learned to fly at the airport and I am amazed how much the restaurant has grown and changed over the years. Nancy's Airfield Cafe is a hidden gem and well worth a visit.
